THE UTTAR Pradesh Sports and Youth Welfare Department on Friday granted recognition to the Para Sports Association and promised differently-abled players in Uttar Pradesh “access to all the sporting facilities” by the state government.

“This will be a great boost for them and more talents will come to the fore, who will bring laurels to Uttar Pradesh in the Para Olympic Games,” said a statement issued by the government.

In a meeting chaired by Sports and Youth Welfare Additional Chief Secretary Navneet Sehgal at Bapu Bhawan on Friday, recognition was given to the Para Sports Association.

“Along with this, a decision will be taken soon to include deaf, mute and blind (hearing, speech and visually impaired players as well,” said Sehgal and added “the state government was committed to encourage para-athletes in
the state”.

“Work is being done to create a strong para sports ecosystem in the state. Para sports and para-athletes will be included in every scheme of the department,” he said.

Sehgal said that “disabled-friendly infrastructure will be created in the state-owned sports facilities including hostels in the state”. “Separate quota will be fixed for para players in sports centers and academies. High performance centers will be set up in many sports for para athletes,” he said.

“Along with this, special trainers will be recruited for para sports and facilities will also be developed for blind and deaf sports. Paralympians will also be rewarded like other Olympic players,” he said.
